Aircraft carrier of the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) converted from an unfinished Amagi-class battlecruiser of same name, saw service in World War II and 2nd Sino-Japanese War. Served as the flagship of the First Air Fleet and led the attack on Pearl Harbor on 7 December 1941. Was sunk during the Battle of Midway with the loss of 267 men months later.
