Designs and prototypes were made around 1953 which were subsequently set into production without minor changes including colors and finishes. Noted and recognised as a revolutionary and innovative guitar at the time, the Stratocaster quickly gained worldwide renown and became one of the most popular electric guitars in history, with its basic design still being used and modified by many other guitar manufacturers to this day.
