A country located on the titular island of Taiwan in East Asia. As a country, it was established by Chiang Kai-Shek and various Kuomintang-affiliated Chinese after the Republic of China was defeated by Mao Zedong's Communist China and evacuated to the island. The state still serving as the continuity of the Republic of China and still using the same official name of "Republic of China" as when the state ruled mainland China.
