A city square in the center of Beijing, China. Located between the eponymous Tiananmen gate and the Forbidden City. The site, and the gate to an extent, has significant political significance for the modern history of China. Oversaw the events spanning from the Opium war and Boxer rebellion in 19th century, the declaration of the founding of the PRC in 1949, and the site of the Tiananmen Square protest in 1989.
