A colorful, long-tailed parrot with a proportionally large, powerful beak. There are 19 species in various colors, including combinations of red, green, yellow and blue. Most macaw species have white or white-striped-with-black facial patches which are as unique as fingerprints, though some such as the hyacinth macaw have sparse color highlights instead. When tagging macaws some confusion may exist between red-and-green macaw and scarlet macaw as they are both large, red macaws with blue wing tips.
